Drake and Nicki Minaj camouflage out on XXL @xxlstaff @nickiminaj

So many yummy mag covers. Add this to the list. The Driz and Nicki Minaj grace the May issue of XXL magazine. Camouflage in effect. Attention, about face!

Update: after careful inspection, Drake looks like a young Barack Obama in this photo.

Video: J Cole shuts down S.O.Bs (and I could actually see!) @jcolenc

Another fine rapper shuts S.O.Bs down. Last night me and about a million fans, bloggers, Jay-Z, Nipsey Hussle, Pill, and industry heads crowded into Hot 97′s Who’s Next showcase to witness Jermaine Cole rock out with nothing more than a mixtape to his resume. It was a pretty packed dude fest but luckily J is pretty tall so I could see him even from where I was being smushed. Supposedly (I refuse to believe it) it was more crowded than when the Drizz shut the place down last year. Fun times. Too many folks to mention but special xoxo to Erika R. and Kozza.

Set your iCal: Drizzy Drake to drop May 25th

Oh yeahhhh. Setting my iCal right now for this one. Drizzy Drake’s highly-anticipated album is dropping May 25th.

Per Rap Up.com Drake’s debut Thank Me Later will arrive on May 25. The Canadian singer-rapper has been in the studio with a who’s who list of collaborators including Jay-Z (“Light Up”), Kanye West, The-Dream (“Shut It Down”), Sean Garrett, and Boi-1da, who produced the first single “Over.”

The project, originally scheduled for an early spring release, has taken a little longer than expected as Drizzy strives for perfection. “This is my first album and it takes a lot for me to commit to a song and be like, ‘I like this enough that I’m gonna put it on the album,’” he told Rap-Up.com. “It’s gotta be something that I feel is timeless and is better than anything that I’ve ever done.”

Drake will travel across the country performing material from the album on his first headlining trek, “The Away From Home Tour,” kicking off April 9 at Penn State University, and wrapping in Houston on May 20, a few days before the record’s release. BTW this tour comes NOWHERE near NYC except for Bamboozle Festival in NJ yet goes to Eastern Michigan University. FML x 100,000 trillion.

My favorite industrysexual song “Over” is currently No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“I’m Date Sowmya, nice to meet me”

A quirky quote from last week’s The Office that I plan on living by this week. When Michael Scott goes into “date mode” he throws on a backwards Kangol hat and says, “Hi I’m Date Mike, nice to meet me. How do you like your eggs in the morning?” *cue wink* Egotistical, self-indulgent, and a little douchey…I love it!

DeGrassi meets Bollywood…I can’t dream this stuff up

NYC’s awful weather and Teen Nick’s DeGrassi reruns make for the perfect stay-at-home weather. I chanced upon the “Power of Love” episode tonight I had never seen, in which the kids throw a Bollywood inspired prom. Check out my boo in this traditional peach kurta (with a non traditional skirt). My mommy, who already told me she thinks he’s “cute”, would be very proud.

I immediately had to share this with my friend Aroop aka Scav who’s just as much of a twelve year old girl as I am.

Throwback video: Mariah, Bad Boy, & shiny suits “Honey”

A great throwback video to kick off the weekend. From Mariah’s hair over the eye to Mase’s slooooooow rapping, I remember being 13 thinking this video was the greatest thing I’d ever seen. #nostalgia

Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian break up/ why I should stop eating carbs

Single girls rejoiced everywhere with news that football star Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian have broken up. Reasons are unclear but dueling schedules, different priorities, groupie look a likes, or maybe just being fed up with Kris Jenner are all feasible. From the pic below, guess I should step up my Kanye Workout Plan a few notches. Aye!
