Happy 9/02/10 day

The best way to celebrate 9/02/10 is to watch old episodes of, what else, Beverly Hills, 90210. I watched this show since I was 6 or 7 (with my parents in the beginning) and kept up until the gang’s sophomore year of college when the show jumped the shark. There are times I still yearn for a slice of Nat’s pie at the Peach Pit/After Dark or a fist bump with Brandon Walsh. Le sigh.

Anyways, here are some choice clips including David Silver’s take on Das EFX.

Good music: Raekwon, Kanye, and “a girl” named Justin Bieber

Is it Mariah Carey circa 1995 or Justin Bieber? Either way, this Runaway Love remix with Raekwon and Ye is pretty amazing. Don’t knock it until you hear it. Thanks to Mikey Fresh for putting me on this one.

What happened this weekend: 135th Street Agency bbq

Event: 135th Street Agency bbq
Venue: El Patio of Talay Lounge, NYC
Tunes: DJ On Point and DJ Will (Power 105)
Sightings: Everyone and their mom. Styles P, Sheek Louch, Miguel, Datwon Thomas, and Free. The bloggerinos (Low Key, Necole Bitchie, Xilla, Jasmine, Chuck Creekmur, the Fly Guys, Monee, Aura, Tracey Ford, Aimstar, etc. etc.) held court right up front.

The lovely ladies of the 135th Street Agency, Shante and Saptosa, brought out all the NYC industry heads for their annual bbq and fish fry this weekend. Great outdoor location and many friends to see. Hennessy Black + Vitamin Water Zero (which thanks to Jasmine the Fly Girl, I realized taste pretty amazing together) kept everyone hydrated and in a great mood. Awesome event to end the summer. Pics below!

Video: Shyne responds to 50 er uh…DJ Boo Boo

Shyne responds to 50′s prank phone call. Rocking a Princeton shirt (go Ivy League! woo!), Shyne pretty much tells us that 50 is stalking him. Beef or bromance? The lines sure do get blurred in hip hop nowadays.

Young Jeezy hearts (sorta) Rick Ross but hates Twitter

Are Young Jeezy and Rick Ross beefing? Probably not from Jeezy’s interview with MTV News. My personal highlight from the homie Shaheem’s interview is this great social media quote from Jeezers. Heart him.

“Subliminals, for what? What’s understood ain’t gotta be said. I didn’t think people would take the record like that… everybody is like, “Ooh. Oh, shot.” Twitter is a muthafucka, by the way.

(Not so) Good music: Usher feat. Jay-Z and Ester Dean “Hot Toddy”

Possibly the worst Usher and Jay-Z collabo (and yes I heard that horrible “Anything” from Kingdom Come). Usher’s voice sounds great but rhyming Ke-mo sah-bee with Hot Toddy. Yikes.

What happened last night: Bun B at S.O.B.s + VH1 Hip Hop Honors kick-off

Event: Bun B and friends
Venue: S.O.B.s, NYC
Tunes: Best of Bun B with additional performances by Lupe, Wale, Paul Wall, Slim Thugga, Chamillionaire, etc. etc.
Sightings: Hip hop heads and NYC media (YN, B Dot, ItstheReal, Mikey Fresh, Lexi and Jessica, Blogxilla, Alex, the homies Jenn Yinn + Mike Barnes (Atlantic Records), etc. etc.

Bun B killed the stage last night at S.O.B.s, kicking off VH1′s Hip Hop Honors week in NYC, for a verrrrrry early set (what hip hop show ends at 10pm?!). Bun and his many friends entertained the crowd. Too many dope performances to mention but anytime I can hear that anthem “Still Tippin”, I’m a happy girl.

Check out Rap Radar’s videos. Thanks guys!

Afterwards, I jetted to VH1′s official pre-party (hi Dela and Lacey!) and then the W Hotel for a very fun night filled with conversations with David Banner, sightings of Craig Robinson (The Office), Gucci Mane, Juvenile, DJ Drama, etc and shots with the LA homie Richie Abbott (WBR).

Mmm Shake Shack

The perfect way to kick off the summer (and break my diet). Jenn Yin (Atlantic Records) and I hit up Shake Shack this weekend with delicious results. If you haven’t been to chef Danny Meyer’s modern burger stand in NYC RUN now. The Shack Stack burger, complete with fried mushroom thingy, and custard shakes are totally worth the 1hr wait in line.

Extra: we had an Aziz Ansari sighting this weekend at the Shack. He did NOT stand in line though and got some sort of celebrity “cutsies”. Lucky.
