Ever wondered what Jay-Z likes to sip in his free time? Who hasn’t. Earlier this week I attended an intimate Armand de Brignac (aka Ace of Spades) tasting and got to taste the very smooth champagne. It may just beat out my incumbent favorite, Cristal.

At $250-$500 per bottle, this type of drink is only reserved for the bosses. Enjoy responsibly.

Kanye West made a somewhat surprising appearance at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this weekend, performing “Award Tour” with Q-Tip. Peep the performance video below

Usually this is something I would probably be at but I was outer borough jaunting in Jackson Heights, Queens with J Dubs, Hyun and Teresa. We hit up Delhi Palace and traipsed around the hood. Definitely the tastier option.

Mexicue soft (taco) opening 7/14 @mexicue

Clearly my voracious appetite for tacos is getting around…I was invited to the soft launch of Mexicue in Chelsea yesterday. The taco truck-ternt restaurant offers a changing menu of tacos, sliders and sides (did someone say Mac N Cheese with green chilies?) at super reasonable prices. Perfect portable food if you’re in the hood (29th and 7th ave).

The homie Lea and I tried each of the tacos of the day including a delightful bbq rib taco. Insider tip: get the Arnold Palmero. Part iced tea, part limeade, all deliciousness. Pics below!

Despite being on my nutritional grizzly, I’ve been taking a culinary tour of the city this summer and stuffing my face in the process. From homemade oreos at Bouchon Bakery to Shake Shack’s burgers with deep-fried mushrooms oozing with cheese and bangin Jamaican food at Freda’s (note: I ordered the jerk chicken but ended up doing a curry goat swap with my Dad), here are some recent food finds that are totally worth the caloric toll. *cue food porn music*

I had an inter-borough adventure this weekend by heading into Brooklyn. First stop, The Smoke Joint for some A+ bbq chicken (not to mention spicy pickles) followed by standing on my tippy toes at the free Raekwon show in Prospect Park (“life as a short shorty shouldn’t be so rough”). Ran into the Michigan homie Amos and ended up in Greenpoint (Huh? Where? Yeah, I don’t know where it is either) at 3am doing an acoustic karaoke version of “Waterfalls”. The life of a bawse mayne.

The homie Lea and I hit up 1534 and Respite as part of a promo and had tons of fun. Insider tip: Justin the bartender at 1534 is a whiz and definitely get the BBQ dumplings and Stormy Hemingway at Respite. Delish. 50 Cent ‘Things Fall Apart’ premiere or how I learned of @vibemagazine ‘s @popchips addiction

Earlier this week I hit up an advanced screening of 50 Cent’s Things Fall Apart. Starring 50, Lynn Whitfield, Ray Liotta, and Mario Van Peebles (who also helmed the project), the film tells the story of a football star (50) stricken by cancer. I realized about halfway through the film that it was shot in Grand Rapids, Michigan (whattup 646?!).

The good folks at NR have video from the screening, which was also attended by DJ Pauly D, Maino, Floyd Mayweather, Carmelo Anthony, Ryan Leslie and Jimmy Jones.

Aside from the film, perhaps the most interesting part of the night was the truly monstrous amount of PopChips consumed by the Vibe homies J Hall and JFK. Guess you can’t just pop one bag eh?
