The Sowmya Life in L.A…. shoot day

I’m in L.A. this weekend shooting an awesome new project (Shhhushhhh… Top secret. I’ll give you details when I can) featuring tastemakers and trendsetters in music, art, food, fashion and lifestyle. Until then, here are some behind-the-scenes flicks featuring The Argyle’s Chris Hewes, DJ Franki Chan and artist Michael Hsuing.

Big Sean returns with new tracks…and one is perfect one for your ex

Big Sean has been quiet as of late (minus his rumored relationship with Ariana Grande) but the rapper dropped four surprise tracks today and one of them is… ETHER at his ex Naya Rivera. If you hate your ex bf/gf, then send “I Don’t Fuck With You” to them asap. Damn.

Zedd turns that sucky song by Magic! and makes it awesome

You made it a hot song, I made it a hotter remix… Zedd, who I met during the Super Bowl, takes the popular (but bo-ring) pop song “Rude” by Magic! and turns it into a hot remix. Perfect for the elliptical at the gym.

J. Cole releases “Be Free” as a tribute to Michael Brown and Ferguson

I’m sure you know all about the tragedy of Michael Brown and what’s going on in Ferguson. From the death of a young man to police retaliation and journalists getting jailed, it’s a shocking and sad state of affairs. Yesterday, I posed the question of hip-hop’s commentary (or lack thereof) in what’s going on. As the voice of young black and brown kids, hip-hop needs to take a stand. I got a lot of Twitter response and today, J. Cole put out a track called “Be Free.”

“Be Free” is a heart-wrenching song and you can hear Cole’s emotions pouring out. I really respect Jermaine and the whole Dreamville team for doing this. It’s easy to forget your roots once you become a big star and J. Cole hasn’t. Also, make sure to read Killer Mike’s heartfelt words dedicated to the Brown family.
