Live review: Common serves up fresh nostalgia on ‘The Dreamer/The Believer’

I hobbled (sans boot) to rapper Common’s album preview for The Dreamer/The Believer (in stores 12/20) last night. Although I’ve heard the record in total already, it’s always a different experience hearing the music with the artist himself (not to mention the open bar-guzzling groupies in attendance). Overall, a solid and definitely a contender for one of the year’s best rap albums. Peep my full review at the Village Voice and take a looksie at Com performing “Raw” acapella. As a new iPhone owner, I didn’t realize the whole shooting in portrait vs. landscape thing. Oopsies.

“Purple Swag Chapter 2″ must be riddled with subliminal messages or something because I cannot. stop. listening. to. it. A$AP is forcing me to relinquish my longstanding notions of NYC regionalism and just embrace the purple. Aside from “Peso”, this is the standout of his recent mixtape. Soooo goood…
