Good music: Diplo, Frank Ocean and The Clash hook up with Converse for “Hero”

Brands partner with musicians all the time but Converse has been killing it with their releases as of late (and I’m not just saying that because I live in Chucks). For the ninth installment of its Three Artists. One Song campaign, Cons hooks up Frank Ocean, Diplo and Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash for “Hero.” I’m officially obsessed with this cut, that blends doo-wop, punk and R&B seamlessly. Each artist has his chance to shine without disrupting the flow of the overall song.

I attended the exclusive press-launch for the song at Converse’s Rubbertracks studio in Brooklyn. There, Diplo, Mick and Paul spoke about the collaboration process. Frank was unfortunately M.I.A. due to scheduling conflicts. Working with Mick and Paul was a dream come true, add in Frank, it got even better,” said Diplo at the event hosted by Sway of MTV and SiriusXM. “The experience was just totally awesome.”

Super Bowl Day 2: NFL Honors x Bud Light Hotel

Super Bowl weekend continued last night. Despite knowing nothing about football, I attended the NFL Honors hosted by Alec Baldwin. The 3rd annual award show honors the best players as well as the NFL Hall of Fame inductees. Again, since I know nothing about football, my star gazing was relegated to which players were hottest… Cam Newton and Reggie Bush…I’m looking at you guys. Sadly, both came with dates. Womp. Womp. Womp.

Then, after a quickie stop at one of my favorite spots (Empanada Mama in Hell’s Kitchen), we headed over to the Bud Light Hotel which had multiple concerts taking place around the Intrepid. The Foo Fighters were playing in one tent and I met Grammy award winner Zedd at the Facebook party. My personal highlight: David Koechner aka “Todd Packer” from The Office winking at me after I complimented him on his routine at NFL Honors.

Last night: Shape and Men’s Fitness Super Bowl Kick-off Party

I’m officially back in NYC after a week in LA. The city is chock full of parties and events for Super Bowl, so there’s little time for a nap. Last night, I joined my friend Melody (WME) at the Shape and Men’s Fitness Super Bowl Kick-off party at Cipriani on 42nd. Comedian Jeffrey Ross (who wasn’t really that funny) hosted for a bunch of celebs including Stephen Colbert, Tyson Beckford, Spike Lee and Terry Crews. The highlight of the night were performers Mary J. Blige (who broke down during her emotional set), John Legend (who sang Luther Vandross and shockingly the majority of the suits had no idea what he was singing) and Marc Anthony (who was HI-LARIOUS in dealing with the non-salsa fans in the crowd).

The selfie light was wonky but I tried to take a few pics for you.

Last night: Naughty Boy and Sam Smith at Soho House NY

Is it just me or have industry events gotten more swanky in the past few months? Last night, the homies at Capitol Records invited me to preview Naughty Boy’s Hotel Cabana at the Soho House in NYC. Afterwards, Sam Smith had the members-only club swoooooning with his live set upstairs. If you haven’t heard of these guys, get familiar NOW. Their MONSTER hit (No. Seriously. It has almost 200 million views on YouTube) “La La La” is going to hit stateside soon and Sam Smith is going to croon his way into your heart. Peep my interview with Naughty Boy for Rolling Stone for more info.
