Live review: Common serves up fresh nostalgia on ‘The Dreamer/The Believer’

I hobbled (sans boot) to rapper Common’s album preview for The Dreamer/The Believer (in stores 12/20) last night. Although I’ve heard the record in total already, it’s always a different experience hearing the music with the artist himself (not to mention the open bar-guzzling groupies in attendance). Overall, a solid and definitely a contender for one of the year’s best rap albums. Peep my full review at the Village Voice and take a looksie at Com performing “Raw” acapella. As a new iPhone owner, I didn’t realize the whole shooting in portrait vs. landscape thing. Oopsies.

Last night: Young Jeezy documentary x Sowmya’s sprained ankle

I hobbled over to Sunshine Cinema last night to preview Hustlerz Ambition, the new Young Jeezy documentary narrated by Samuel L. Jackson. I was pleasantly surprised that the flick was more retrospective than Paid in Full. Peep my review for the Village Voice here.

If you’re keeping count at home, this is the SECOND Jeezy event I’ve been to with the good old UGG-esque cast. Don’t ever say I don’t take the fall for hip-hop!

Young Jeezy previews Jay-Z and Andre 3000 banger/shouts-out Kalamazoo

I hobbled over to an intimate preview of Young Jeezy’s much-anticipated TM 103 album (in stores 12/20) in NYC last night. It was good to see the journosexual folks and receive a Kalamazoo shout-out. What the what? You read it right. Peep the review here
