citizenM…Where cool kids stay in Times Square

Citizenm1

I’ve been traveling a lot lately for work (I’m actually blogging this while aboard Amtrak). Before I go anywhere, I always spend a ton of time looking for the perfect hotel: Convenient, youthful and stylish without breaking the bank. One of my favorite hotel concepts is citizenM. The boutique hotel has taken over Europe and recently made its way stateside to NYC. I was invited to the grand unveiling in Times Square and LOVED IT.

citizenM is made for the mobile citizens of the world. “The suits, weekenders, explorers, affair-havers and fashion-grabbers looking for boutique hotel accommodations.” The hotel strips bo-ring things like room service that no one really uses in lieu of aesthetically funky rooms, free wifi and dope art. It’s similar to a pod hotel but not as janky minimalist. The lobby is especially awesome. Decked out like a high-end hotel, it offers a full-service coffee bar. This isn’t your motel thermos of coffee- the baristas have actually traveled around the world to learn the fine art of coffee.

Prices are very affordable for the style and personal touches citizenM offers, like the welcome tablets in the room. If you’re on a budget but want to live like a trendy, cosmopolitan baller-and who doesn’t?-check out citizenM and peep photos from the blogger unveiling party.

Good music: Diplo, Frank Ocean and The Clash hook up with Converse for “Hero”

Brands partner with musicians all the time but Converse has been killing it with their releases as of late (and I’m not just saying that because I live in Chucks). For the ninth installment of its Three Artists. One Song campaign, Cons hooks up Frank Ocean, Diplo and Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash for “Hero.” I’m officially obsessed with this cut, that blends doo-wop, punk and R&B seamlessly. Each artist has his chance to shine without disrupting the flow of the overall song.

I attended the exclusive press-launch for the song at Converse’s Rubbertracks studio in Brooklyn. There, Diplo, Mick and Paul spoke about the collaboration process. Frank was unfortunately M.I.A. due to scheduling conflicts. Working with Mick and Paul was a dream come true, add in Frank, it got even better,” said Diplo at the event hosted by Sway of MTV and SiriusXM. “The experience was just totally awesome.”

Super Bowl Day 2: NFL Honors x Bud Light Hotel

Super Bowl weekend continued last night. Despite knowing nothing about football, I attended the NFL Honors hosted by Alec Baldwin. The 3rd annual award show honors the best players as well as the NFL Hall of Fame inductees. Again, since I know nothing about football, my star gazing was relegated to which players were hottest… Cam Newton and Reggie Bush…I’m looking at you guys. Sadly, both came with dates. Womp. Womp. Womp.

Then, after a quickie stop at one of my favorite spots (Empanada Mama in Hell’s Kitchen), we headed over to the Bud Light Hotel which had multiple concerts taking place around the Intrepid. The Foo Fighters were playing in one tent and I met Grammy award winner Zedd at the Facebook party. My personal highlight: David Koechner aka “Todd Packer” from The Office winking at me after I complimented him on his routine at NFL Honors.

Last night: Shape and Men’s Fitness Super Bowl Kick-off Party

I’m officially back in NYC after a week in LA. The city is chock full of parties and events for Super Bowl, so there’s little time for a nap. Last night, I joined my friend Melody (WME) at the Shape and Men’s Fitness Super Bowl Kick-off party at Cipriani on 42nd. Comedian Jeffrey Ross (who wasn’t really that funny) hosted for a bunch of celebs including Stephen Colbert, Tyson Beckford, Spike Lee and Terry Crews. The highlight of the night were performers Mary J. Blige (who broke down during her emotional set), John Legend (who sang Luther Vandross and shockingly the majority of the suits had no idea what he was singing) and Marc Anthony (who was HI-LARIOUS in dealing with the non-salsa fans in the crowd).

The selfie light was wonky but I tried to take a few pics for you.
