Grind now, explain later

Grind now, explain later. It's easy to get caught up in the pressure of keeping up in 140-characters. A lot of people focus more on posting the best selfies and the most impressive tweets than in doing the work. Why? Well, work ain't always glamorous. My job includes meeting celebrities and hanging in VIP but it also involves shlepping to interviews in the middle of Brooklyn, waiting around for rappers who run on "hip-hop time" and then transcribing (which, if you've done, you know is boooooring). Is it fun? Yes. But it's a lot of WORK. I don't care if you're Beyonce or Sowmya, the majority of the grind happens behind closed doors.

If you're trying to get your foot into the door of the entertainment or the music industry, I always advise to FOCUS ON THE WORK. Good work speaks for itself. You don't need to pound your chest on social media to prove that you're good. And full disclosure: Some of the folks who bark the loudest, are actually living in their mama's basement and making no money. I won't say any names but there's a lot of fronting' going on...
